Product Descriptions and the Search Engines

All successful business have a brand and image that sets them apart from the thousands of similar businesses. Are you trying to sell products on the internet but never seem to make any money? Even if you only sell products you make yourself, you are competing with thousands of other vendors for the same customers and you need to stand out. Standing out in a crowded world starts with your product descriptions. Take a look at the descriptions your using to try and sell your product, are they well written original content that conveys your brand? If not, your business may be suffering from low search engine results which means your customers are going to another store.

Good product descriptions convey not only the facts and general information about the product you are selling but explain the benefits of the product as well. Spend some time using the products you sell in order to really understand the benefits. Write about your experiences in your product descriptions to give your brand a personal touch. A good product description will appeal not only to your customers need but their emotions as well. Capitalize on the emotional aspect of your writing by including a call-to-action that allows your customer to immediately purchase your products.

Writing original product descriptions is the first step in increasing your search engine rankings. You must avoid duplicate content both on your own website and with other websites as well. Search engines are programed to filter out duplicate content and you do not want your website to be included in this duplicate filter. Take a look at your product descriptions, did you copy the information directly from the manufacturer’s website or sales copy? Many people will do this which means you automatically created duplicate copy.

You may not consider yourself a good writer but that does not mean you can not create great product descriptions. Start your product descriptions by using the manufacture’s copy as a template. Change the order of the sentences and focus on using your own words. You also need to change several of the keywords by using synonyms. On a final review of your writing make sure that your brand and your personality shows through. You will want to avoid using urban slang in your writing but that does not mean you can not put a little personality in your product description.

After you have created the original content you need for good search engine results, you need to monitor your content to determine if someone else has stolen your work. If you work hard and earn a high search engine ranking and have great product descriptions, someone will want to use your work as their own. If your content is used on another website, you again take the chance of being seen as supplemental information to be filtered out of the search engine results. To easily find duplicate content there are several websites which can search the internet for duplicate webpages. It is a good idea to protect your work and use these websites on a periodical basis and take appropriate action if needed.

Unique and quality content is the key to both high search engine results and high sales. Create product descriptions that are interesting to the reader and rich with keywords and you will find the sales start to roll in. Build your brand through your product descriptions and you will build a unique business that ranks high in the mind of its customers and ranks high in the search engines.
